Sunday Jazz at the Blue Door
QUEENSTOWN FUNK ORCHESTRA
Welcome to The QFO Experiment. Alchemists of nostalgic rhythm in jazz, funk, disco and soul. Mood makers, improvisers, root cause of uninhibited foot tapping and general curators and keepers of the groove. A QFO gig will gather up all who is free to join the jam but at its core is a five piece, consisting of keys, bass, trumpet, guitar and drums.
Another Blue Door favourite: Exploring the music of Snarky Puppy, with funk grooves, jazz riffs and room for improvisational soloing along with some music from John Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard and Jaco Pastorious. Expect surprises, dynamics, changes and variations on a theme.
Ahh, the joys of Spring - and the joys of jazz! A night of jazz standards and lesser known jazz rarities, all on the theme of Spring!
Nance Wilson - vocals, Mark Wilson - keys Cliff Leatherbarrow - bass
Mahogany Pavement is a guitar centric group with some fretless electric bass, acoustic bass, and advanced jazz drumming thrown in to boot.
Cliff Leatherbarrow, Alex Pyle, and Michael Harray explore the guitar music of Bill Frisell, Pat Metheny, John Scofield, and others while putting their own unique stamp on well and lesser known standards.
